About Dawn Hartman - Pittsburgh Photographer

Dawn Hartman is a Pittsburgh photographer born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Psychology, Dawn has found her true calling in professional photography. Dawn's very personal connection with her subject matter allows her to create images that convey the beauty and emotion hidden in both everyday and once-in-a-lifetime moments.

An appreciation for subtle beauty has informed Dawn's photography from the beginning. She began capturing friends so that they could see themselves through someone else's eyes and delight in the recognition. A college semester spent in New Zealand expanded Dawn's artistic repertoire. She traveled to 6 other countries, determined to capture beauty in places around the world to share with others.

Dawn held her first artistic opening at the Imagebox gallery in Penn Avenue Arts District in 2008. This opening funded a service trip to Africa. While volunteering with street children in Accra, Ghana, Dawn collected images conveying the brilliance of the Ghanaian people. Upon her return, she hosted a show to showcase her images of Ghana.

Dawn's Intimacy Project is an ongoing exploration of the diversity inherent to the human expression of intimacy. The Intimacy Project has seen several successful openings and is currently being featured in several locations outside the Pittsburgh region.
