About Dawn Hartman - Pittsburgh Photographer
Dawn Hartman is a Pittsburgh photographer born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Psychology, Dawn has found her true calling in professional photography. Dawn's very personal connection with her subject matter allows her to create images that convey the beauty and emotion hidden in both everyday and once-in-a-lifetime moments.
Dawn currently works at Magee Women’s Hospital photographing newborns. In addition to newborns she enjoys photography of all types, commercial as well as artistic. The versatilty of photography is what keeps her inspired, leading her to photograph anything from families, models, and musicians, to abstracts, landscapes, and even real estate. She loves a creative challenge, so new ideas are welcome.
Prior to becoming a profession, Dawn’s photography started as a hobby. In efforts to fundraise for a trip to volunteer in Ghana, Africa, she had her first public opening with ‘The Intimacy Project’ in 2008. The show was so successful that it funded her entire trip to Ghana and led to 7 subsequent shows over the next 3 years, the most recent in June of 2011. Over 90 people have been photographed for the project and it continues to expand, culminating in the effort to publish a book that can be shared nationally.
